icarus

the urge to fly. we, demented birds, longingly staring at the sky, but so cruelly pinned down to the cold ground, we call out in the name of freedom's spirit: raise us, oh mighty force, pull us apart from the earth! we thrust our arms out into the air, hoping to sprout feathers from our shoulders, but, alas, our dreams are shattered. forever doomed to this dense and heavy existence, we will never know the magnificent gift of flight.

oh, but it's not like we'd appreciate it! let the fools dream, I say, but may the dreams be only delusions. we'd have done something silly with it.

and those that try scorch their wings on the sun's blazing rays, or get dragged down by the moisture of the sea. Icarus was just as any other man - and shows only that the more power we have, the madder we get.

I have a few theoretical fixations, about which I will tell you nothing. but if you've paid any attention, you might already know of them. the idea of flight never was one of them, however. I'm not sure why I've mentioned them at all.
